Kyle Casazza Named Assistant Conductor of Vermont Philharmonic
The Vermont Philharmonic has appointed Kyle Casazza as its new Assistant Conductor, a role that expands both the artistic and administrative leadership of the state’s oldest community orchestra. In his new position, Casazza will work closely with Music Director Lou Kosma to support concert programming, lead rehearsals, and contribute to educational and outreach efforts.
Casazza brings a wealth of experience to the role. He currently serves as Director of Music at the Georgia School in Georgia, Vermont, where he leads both instrumental and choral programs. Prior to his work in Vermont, he performed for 17 seasons as second trombonist with the Abilene Philharmonic Orchestra in Texas and played with the Lone Star Wind Orchestra.
In Vermont, Casazza is already an active performer. He plays trombone in the Vermont Philharmonic, is third trombonist with the Vermont Jazz Ensemble, and performs with the Vermont All‑Star Salsa Band, Alma Picante.
Casazza holds a Master of Music and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of North Texas, where he studied trombone with Tony Baker and Vern Kagarice, and conducting with Eugene Migliaro Corporon and Dennis Fisher. During his time there, he played with the university’s renowned Wind Symphony and participated in several recording projects and educational initiatives. He has also earned national recognition, winning top prizes in competitions held by the International Trombone Association and the U.S. Army Band.
The Vermont Philharmonic, founded in 1959, includes both professional and amateur musicians and is now entering its 67th season. Casazza’s appointment marks a significant step forward for the organization as it continues to grow its musical offerings and community presence. The orchestra’s fall concerts are scheduled for mid‑October in Greensboro and Barre.
