ATTENTION BRASS PLAYERS AND ALL MUSIC LOVERS!!!

Santa Barbara City College’s Trombone Ensembles are proud to welcome back the legendary movie soundtrack trombonist Alex Iles as our guest artist for this semester’s “Slide Show” FREE master class (9:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.) and a FREE afternoon concert (starting at 3:00 p.m.) on Saturday, April 18th!

The morning master class will feature Alex Iles working with members of our SBCC Trombone Ensembles, providing critique for trombonists of all ages and skill levels as they perform iconic solo works, etudes, and orchestral excerpts.

And later that same day, our SBCC Trombone Ensembles will perform a FREE CONCERT entitled “Dinosaur Bones” featuring works related to the prehistoric era, including:

– “Fossils” (from Saint-Saens’ “Carnival of the Animals”)
– “Dinosaurs” TV Show theme (Bruce Broughton)
– “Jurassic Park” medley (John Williams)
– “The Flintstones” TV Show theme (Hoyt Curtin)
– “Calls & Echoes of the Dinosaurs” (Joseph Alex Reyes)
– “Adventures in Dino-Sitting” (the WORLD PREMIERE live performance by Carl Johnson of “Animaniacs” and “Pinky & the Brain” fame!)

The performing trombone ensembles will include:
– SBCC Trombone Choir
– SB Junior Trombone Choir
– 8th Position Trombone Octet
– SBCC Sackbut Ensemble

Most importantly–this is a celebration of music, so these FREE events are open to trombonists and non-trombonists alike! And if you have never heard a trombone choir before, you are in for a real treat!

The morning master class will take place in SBCC’s Fe Bland Forum, which is located under the BC Building’s clock tower on SBCC’s West Campus. And for the first time, the afternoon concert will take place in SBCC’s beautiful Garvin Theatre! Parking is also FREE all day long, too!

So come on out on Saturday, April 18th to hear some great music like you’ve never heard it before–it will be a day filled with Dinosaurs, Trombones, and Alex Iles–OH MY!!!
