Calgary Trombone Day 2026

Calgary hosts its annual “Slide Into Spring: Trombone Day” on Sunday, May 3, 2026, celebrating International Trombone Week with a full day of music, learning, and collaboration. Now in its 13th year, the event welcomes trombonists of all ages and skill levels.
The day begins at Aberhart High School with warm-ups and a featured workshop led by Calgary Philharmonic’s Assistant Principal Trombone, Kristofer Leslie. In his session, “Practice Techniques on the Spectrum of Creativity,” he guides participants as they apply new ideas directly to pieces they are currently practicing.
In the afternoon, musicians rehearse as part of a massed trombone choir under conductor Carlos Foggin and prepare “Awakening Blossoms” by Shao-Tong Huang. The event concludes with an evening concert at Hope Lutheran Church, where performers showcase the trombone’s versatility.
Instrument displays, door prizes, and a food bank donation drive round out the day, blending education, performance, and community spirit into one dynamic celebration.
