Dr. Joseph L. Jefferson was awarded the 2022 Ellis Marsalis, Jr. Jazz Educator of the Year Award from the Jazz Educator Network. The award, named after the legendary jazz educator, recognizes an outstanding elementary, middle, or high school educator with a focus on jazz education, who represents the highest standards of teaching and whose results in the classroom have brought distinction to their institution and their students.
Dr. Jefferson is Director of Jazz Studies and Assistant Professor of Trombone/Euphonium at Southeast Missouri State University. Well-versed in jazz and classical, he maintains an active schedule as a performer and educator, both nationally and internationally.
