Happy 80th Birthday Carsten Svanberg!

We warmly congratulate Danish trombonist Carsten Svanberg on his 80th birthday, celebrated today on December 6, 2025.

Since his first ITW appearance in Nashville in 1975 – where he met legends such as Bill Watrous, Albert Mangelsdorf, Slide Hampton, and Stuart Dempster – Carsten has been an inspiring presence in the trombone world. A frequent ITA guest artist and champion of new music, he has premiered numerous works and inspired many composers to write for the trombone, including the alto trombone.

Congratulations, Carsten, and thank you for your lifelong dedication to our instrument and community!
