Danish trombonist and composer Lis Wessberg returns with In The Wake of Blue, a deeply personal, song-driven album created in close collaboration with vocalist Veronika Rud. To be released April 17, 2026 on April Records, the record explores themes of transience, love, and transformation.

Building on the acclaim of her Danish Music Award–nominated Twain Walking, Wessberg refines her distinctive trombone voice into a more intimate and lyrical setting. Central to the album is the delicate interplay between trombone and voice: rather than a traditional singer-led project, Wessberg and Rud move as equals, weaving melodies that converge, separate, and reconnect.

They are supported by a responsive trio consisting of Steen Rasmussen (piano), Lennart Ginman (bass), and Jeppe Gram (drums), and a string quartet adding subtle depth on selected tracks.

With its spacious production and emotional clarity, In The Wake of Blue highlights Wessberg’s strength as both composer and collaborator, offering a quietly powerful contribution to contemporary European jazz.
