Timothy Higgins, principal trombone of the San Francisco Symphony, was the featured soloist in his own concerto. Ludovic Morlot conducted the world premiere on November 18, 2021.
Timothy was appointed principal trombone in 2008. He has performed with the Chicago, Milwaukee, Baltimore, and Virginia symphonies, as well as Washington National Opera. He is also active as a composer and arranger. While this is his first concerto, Timothy has composed and arranged works for orchestras and brass ensembles across the country. The University of Georgia Hugh Hodgson School of Music announces a vacancy for the Trombone Studio Teaching Assistant position, beginning Fall 2022. The TA position is available for MM & DMA applicants, with duties on Bass Trombone.
The position includes a wide variety of leadership and teaching experience, including instruction of studio music minors and rotational instruction of select studio music majors. Other opportunities include leading weekly seminar sessions, conducting the UGA Trombone Choir, coaching chamber ensembles, and helping plan and coordinate studio events.

University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music anticipates an opening for a Graduate Assistantship in the Fellowship Brass Quintet. This is a two-year position for Tenor Trombone applicants to the MM, AD, or DMA programs. Duties include regular rehearsals and performances with the Fellowship Brass Quintet as well as coaching younger groups at CCM.

The GA in the Brass Quintet includes:

The University of Iowa School of Music announces a vacancy for the Trombone Studio Teaching Assistant position, beginning fall 2022. Teaching Assistant duties will include teaching majors and non-majors, working with the trombone choir, coaching chamber ensembles, and teaching Instrumental Techniques (part of the Music Education curriculum).
Teaching Assistants in the School of Music are considered 25% (maximum of 10 hours per week) and receive a full tuition waiver, a partial fee waiver, access to subsidized medical, dental, and vision insurance and a stipend of approximately $10,000 per year ($1,000 paid monthly on the first of each month from September 1 to June 1 of each year).

The University of Northern Colorado School of Music announces a Graduate Assistantship in Trombone, with an anticipated opening beginning in 2022-2023.
A Teaching/Graduate Assistantship is available for a tenor trombone or bass trombone student beginning a Master of Music or Doctor of Arts degree next year (2022-2023). The exact award may vary, depending on experience and teaching assignments, but may be a 1/2 tuition or full tuition waiver plus a stipend, and is renewable. The assistant will work closely with Dr. Nat Wickham in all aspects of the trombone studio and trombone choir.

The Frost School of Music has a graduate trombone assistantship available beginning Fall 2022. This award includes up to full tuition waiver, and a stipend of up to $14,000 per year. The applicant must be accepted for graduate coursework at the Frost School of Music in order to be eligible for the assistantship. Henry Mancini Fellowships are renewable for subsequent years towards completion of either a master’s or doctoral degree in trombone performance.
