Graduate Brass Quintet Fellowship at CCM


Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music is now accepting applications for its inaugural Graduate Brass Quintet. This prestigious Fellowship Program is open to highly qualified trumpet, horn, trombone and tuba players. Pre-formed Quintets are preferred but not required.

The members of CCM’s Graduate Brass Quintet Fellowship program will receive full tuition scholarship support and a graduate assistantship stipend of $8,000 per academic year. Fellows must be enrolled in a two-year Master of Music (MM) or Artist Diploma (AD) program at CCM.

Fellows will receive guidance from CCM’s illustrious faculty members including Phil Collins, Alan Siebert, Tim Anderson, Peter Norton and Tim Northcut, as well as guest artists like Alison Balsom, Warren Deck, the American Brass Quintet, the Army Band Brass Quintet and Harmonic Brass.

The Graduate Brass Quintet will coach undergraduate winds and brass chamber ensembles. The Quintet will give full recitals on campus and must attend one chamber music competition per year with available travel funding assistance.

Brass Studies at CCM connects students to a powerful network of nationally and internationally renowned teachers and performers. Our graduates draw on this network to begin their own careers as soloists, chamber musicians, teachers and players with major symphony orchestras and premier military bands.

Teaching Assistantship University of Northern Colorado


A Teaching Assistantship is available for a trombone or bass trombone student pursuing a Master of Music or Doctor of Arts degree for next year (2018-2019 and renewable) at the University of Northern Colorado. Graduate Assistantship in Trombone at Ohio University starting in August 2018

The trombone studio is comprised of around 16 graduate and undergraduate students studying a variety of degrees including: Music Performance, Music Education, and Music in Combination with an Outside Field. Students receive weekly lessons, studio class, and perform in the University of Florida Trombone Choir. Trombonists participate in all major university ensembles including the: Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Gator Marching Band, as well as smaller ensembles such as brass quintets, jazz combos, and pep bands.

Over the past few years the studio has performed at the 2017 Florida Music Educators Associate Professional Development Conference, 2013 International Trombone Festival, and the UF International Brass Festival. Guest artists during Dr. Shinn’s tenure include: US Air Force Trombone Quartet, Buffalo Philharmonic Low Brass Section, Potsdam Brass Quintet, University of Tennessee Faculty Brass Quintet, Nathan Zgonc (Atlanta Symphony Orchestra), Lance Green (Royal Scottish National Orchestra) MSgt Karl Johnson (US Marine Band), and Mark Lusk (Penn State University).

The duties include:

This assistantship provides:
The full-time graduate assistantship tuition waiver covers all 30 hours of the degree (but not remedial courses in music history and music theory and student fees).
The stipend is awarded over eight months and provides the student with approximately $880 per month for living expenses.
Assistantships are renewable for a second year. Partial assistantships may be offered.
$300 per semester for travel to professional presentations or master classes/festivals if chosen via competitive selection.
The degree plan usually affords the opportunity for an “Independent Study” in a specific area of study/interest.
The assistantship is renewable based on the evidence of significant forward musical progress.

The GA candidate will also have the opportunity to serve as second trombone in the Waco Symphony Orchestra pending the approval of Mr. Phillips, the music director and union membership.

About the Baylor University School of Music

Applicants must qualify for admission to the Graduate School in order to qualify for an assistantship. The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is not required for performance majors. Official notice of graduate assistantships in the School of Music for 2018-20 will be made in writing by the Director of Graduate Studies in March 2018. While the GA contract is covered for a single year, the expectation is that it will be renewed for a second year. This renewal is contingent on maintaining good academic standing and performing the duties assigned above.
