Graduate Assistantship at Texas Tech


Beginning August 2018, One Graduate Position in Tenor or Bass Trombone

Responsibilities: Teach private trombone lessons, perform with the Graduate Brass Quintet, perform in a major ensemble, assist with administration of trombone program, and other duties fitting the qualifications of the winning candidate.

Stipend: During the 2018-19 academic year, Graduate TAs receive a stipend of $10,000.00 on the Master’s Degree Track for nine months or $11,500.00 for nine months on the DMA Degree Track, plus out of state tuition waivers and benefits. The estimated tuition for MM Candidates is $1,500/semester; for  DMA candidates, the estimate is $600.00 – $ 1,000.00/semester.

Qualifications: Bachelor of Music or Music Degrees in Music or Music Education, excellent performance skills, experience in private trombone instruction, conducting skills and admission with full matriculation to a graduate music degree program in the School of Music

Graduate Degrees: Master of Music, Doctor of Musical Arts, or Ph. D of Fine Arts degree, with a major in Music Theory and Composition, Music History and Literature, Performance or Conducting

Ball State University Jazz Trombone GA


The Ball State University School of Music has an opening for a Masters, Artist Diploma, or Doctoral Graduate Assistant in the Jazz Concentration starting Fall 2018. This is a half assistantship, which includes a 50% tuition waiver and an annual stipend of the following: Masters: $3,500, Artist Diploma in Jazz: $3,550, Doctorate: $6,000.

While the GA is open to any instrumentalist, special consideration will be given this year to a trombonist. Besides being a strong performer on trombone and possessing the ability to lead the third big band, additional special consideration will be given to a trombonist who also is a competent improviser. Freddie Mendoza is BSU’s professor of Jazz Trombone, and Chris Van Hof is the professor of Trombone. The jazz GA will study jazz privately with Dr. Mendoza in addition to non-jazz lessons with Dr. Van Hof.

The Ball State University jazz program is deep, led by trumpeter Mark Buselli. The big bands tour regularly, including a recent summer 2017 trip to the Montreaux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. Besides local performance opportunities in Muncie, the Indianapolis, Chicago, and Detroit jazz scenes are all easily accessible.

Opening for Assistant Professor of Trombone, the University of Florida


Position: Full-time, 10 month, tenure accruing faculty position

Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in applied trombone/bass trombone. Maintain creative / scholarly and service contributions appropriate for a faculty member at a major university; and serve on university committees as assigned.

Minimum Requirements: Applicants must hold a terminal degree or professional equivalency. Master’s degree required.

Preferred Qualifications: Previous teaching experience in higher education, public school teaching experience, and evidence of scholarly research and publications and presentations, and/or professional level performance experience are preferred, as is the ability to perform and teach in multiple musical styles.

Bogaert Joins Conservatory of Music Cambrai


Francois Bogaert has recently accepted the position of Professor of Trombone at the Conservatory of Music in Cambrai, France.

Born in Northern France, Francois began studying music under the watchful eye of his grandmother and his father in the Calonne Ricouart Music School. He naturally chose the trombone and quickly joined the CRR of Lille in Christian Bogaert’s class. Alongside his trombone studies, Francois learned percussion, double bass and piano. He also studied conducting and analysis in the CRR of Douai with Pierre Vigneron.

Francois has participated as Solo Trombone in the National and European Brass Band Championships with the Brass Band Nord Pas de Calais since 2010. In 2016 Francois was selected for the Prestigious Soloist Contest of the European BrassBand Association in Lille. François has also been a member of the teaching team and is an arranger for the largest European Trombone Festival, Lille Trombone Festival, since 2011.

After a gold medal at the CRR of Lille and CRR of Boulogne Billancourt, François was admitted to Conservatoire National Supérieur Musique in Paris in the class of Giles Millière.  Francois continued his musical studies with Michel Becquet in Lyon. After earning a Bachelor’s Degree in 2013, François obtained his Master’s Degree in June 2015 with the dissertation topic : “Silly Symphonies of Walt Disney.” He also earned many honors in the Orchestration Class of Luca Antignani at the Conservatoire National Supérieur Musique in Lyon.

He has performed with with Lille National Orchestra, Orchestre National de Lyon, Orchestre de l’Opera de Lyon, Orchestre de Douai, Ensemble Instrumental of the Ariege, Orchestra of the Opera of St-Etienne, SoCal Brass Consortium of Los Angeles, Downey Symphony, Burbank Philharmonic and Bervely Hills Symphony. He made his debut at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, prestigious home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, with the USC Thornton Symphony in 2017.

François graduated from the prestigious University of Southern California Thornton School of Music in Los Angeles where he has perfected the profession of orchestral music.

François won the award of Young Talent Adami Scholarship and he is a Performing Artist with Antoine Courtois USA.

University of Illinois Trombone Teaching Assistantship


A graduate teaching assistantship in trombone is available for 2018-19 at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. This .25 assistantship includes a tuition waiver and stipend for the academic year and a tuition waiver for summer classes. Duties include performing with the graduate brass quintet, studio teaching, assisting with the trombone choir and other duties determined by the director of the school of music.

Two Graduate Assistantships at LSU


Louisiana State University has two assistantships open for graduate students (MM or DMA) starting in Fall of 2018. Louisiana State University is a top university in the SEC located in the heart of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
