Ball State University School of Music invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment beginning August 2017. Responsibilities include teaching applied lessons to undergraduate and graduate students, performing with the faculty brass quintet, leading weekly studio class, directing/conducting trombone ensemble, coaching student chamber groups, and additional duties as assigned by the director. Additional performance opportunities may be available locally and regionally. A successful candidate will be expected recruit and maintain a strong studio, maintain a national/international level of performance/scholarship, and participate in service.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and education
Minimum Qualifications: Completed master’s degree in music, a strong performance history, and a record of successful teaching.
Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to recruit and retain quality students, exceptional performance and/or scholarly background, completed doctorate, coaching chamber music, teaching trombone repertoire/pedagogy, conducting experience, and/or experience/background of entrepreneurship in music.

For the 2017 International Trombone Festival (ITF), which will be held at the University of Redlands June 28 to July 1, the ITF is partnering with Bones West to create the first ever California Collegiate Honors Trombone Choir. The Choir will perform at the opening ceremony of the ITF and as part of the ITF Concerto Concert featuring soloists Ian Bousfield, James Markey, Brandt Attema and Michael Mulcahy at the Redlands Bowl. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to perform on the world premier of Stuart Dempster’s new surround sound piece RedBoneLands written for 20 to 200 trombonists during the final concert. Other repertoire will include the premier of a new work commissioned for the ensemble by Dr. Wes Flynn, and Eric Cree’s 76 Trombones from the London Trombone Sound.
Eligibility:
Enrollment is open to undergraduate or graduate trombone students who are enrolled in a college or university in California, or are California residents studying out of state, that have the recommendation by their private teacher or large ensemble director. There is no fee to participate, however, all students need to be members of the International Trombone Association in good standing for 2017 and register for the International Trombone Festival.
There will be two rehearsals in the Spring of 2017 both on Saturdays in Los Angeles. The rehearsals will include a warm up, rehearsal and a master class. The dress rehearsal will be on the morning of June 28th before the opening ceremony in Memorial Chapel at the University of Redlands. The dress rehearsal for the Concerto Concert will be at the Redlands Bowl Thursday evening, June 29th. Rehearsal attendance is mandatory.

The University of North Texas announces an opening for Teaching Fellow (DMA candidate) starting Fall 2017. Duties include teaching trombone lessons, conducting trombone choir and coaching trombone quartet.

The University of New Mexico announces a graduate assistantship in bass trombone for a Master of Music student beginning in Fall 2017.
The assistantship includes a tuition waiver, a stipend of $6296, and health insurance. Duties include performance in the UNM Wind Symphony, the UNM Symphony Orchestra and Jazz I, teaching in the trombone studio, and administrative tasks.
The University of New Mexico is situated at the base of the Sandia Mountains, where there are unlimited opportunities for outdoor recreation. The climate is sunny and mild. Numerous performance opportunities are available between Albuquerque and nearby Santa Fe.

The Colorado State University School of Music, Theatre, and Dance has openings for potential trombone graduate assistants in both jazz and classical concentrations.
The jazz-specific GTA position involves teaching undergraduate jazz combos, administrative work in the Jazz Area, and supplementary teaching in jazz classes including theory and composition. Performance in Jazz Ensemble I and Jazz Combo I is also a requirement, so a successful candidate will have a high level of skill in both performance and pedagogy. These GTAs earn the Master’s in Jazz Studies. Recent guest artists have included Marshall Gilkes, John Fedchock, and Nick Finzer.
The non-jazz GTA positions involve work primarily associated with large lecture classes serving as course assistants. Occasionally, this involves teaching, but mostly it involves attendance and grading. Participation in large classical and jazz ensembles is expected, as is chamber music. These GTAs earn the Master’s in Music Performance.
Led by Dr. Chris Van Hof, the Trombone Studio at CSU is active and thriving. Guest artists this year include Joseph Alessi, James Nova, Kirsten Warfield, Gerry Pagano, and Ilan Morgenstern. The CSU Trombone Choir performs throughout Colorado, and will soon tour nationally. Located at the base of the Rocky Mountains, Fort Collins and Colorado’s Front Range is a thriving urban area with many opportunities to teach and perform for musicians. Graduate study at CSU is a perfect balance of high musical expectations, career preparation, and boundless natural beauty.

The University of Southern Mississippi is excited to announce a graduate assistantship in trombone (MM or DMA) starting in Fall 2017.
Benefits include in-state and out-of-state tuition waivers, a stipend of $7200, and health insurance. The Great American Brass Band Festival is now accepting applications for student groups to perform at GABBF 2017. All interested in submitting Student Ensemble Performance proposals for GABBF 2017 should send the following application and materials by December 1st 2016.
An applicant ensemble should be a three- to ten-piece mixed or like-instrument ensemble made up of students who are high school through collegiate level. Upon a group’s invitation, a $50 GABBF Student Performer Fee for each member of the selected ensemble will be due, which will cover Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night’s lodging, as well as admission and lunch for the Friday Brass Symposium.
