Patterson & Wilkins Release Big City Livin’
New York-based trombonist and composer Rebecca Patterson and renowned trombonist Ron Wilkins have released Big City Livin’, a new big band recording built around the theme of time, resilience, and recovery.
The project centers on a suite composed by Wilkins, inspired by his experience of spending a month in a coma while hospitalized with COVID-19 in 2020. Patterson contributed additional original compositions that reflect her perspective during that period, creating a collaborative musical narrative.
The release also includes an animated short film featuring music from the opening movement of Wilkins’ suite. The film places the trombone prominently in both its musical and visual storytelling.
