Three awards in one week

The trombone community had several reasons to celebrate last week with a number of respected musicians and educators receiving major recognition.

The International Trombone Association has announced two of its annual award recipients.

Katy Jones, Senior Tutor at the Royal Northern College of Music and Principal Trombone with the Hallé Orchestra, has received the ITA Award. The distinction recognizes a high level of achievement across areas such as performance, composition, teaching, and service. Her broad contributions to the field have made her a well-regarded figure within the community.

In the UK, the Royal Philharmonic Society Awards gave Peter Moore, Professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London, with the Instrumentalist Award. Notably, he is the first trombonist to receive this honor. Moore’s work as a performer and collaborator has brought increased visibility to the instrument in recent years.

Taken together, these recognitions highlight the continued work of performers and teachers who contribute to the development and visibility of the trombone.
