Score and parts

Primary Genre: Trombone Ensembles - 4 trombones

Mozart’s Overture to The Magic Flute is an energetic, widely recognized work that never fails to
captivate audiences. Arranger Timothy Myers has skillfully transcribed this orchestral masterpiece — one of Mozart’s most beloved overtures — for trombone quartet. His arrangement aims to preserve as much of the original score as possible within the limits of four voices.

This is a challenging work, best suited for professional musicians or highly advanced students.
Scored for alto trombone, two tenor trombones, and bass trombone, it demands technical facility, a consistent multiple tongue, and stamina from all performers. At nearly seven minutes in length, the piece is a substantial addition to any serious low brass program and, when executed successfully, would make a thrilling concert closer.

This arrangement is presented with excellent attention to detail. The parts are cleanly engraved, easy to read, and thoughtfully prepared with clear cues and considerate page turns. Myers’s care in layout and musical practicality reflects a deep understanding of the instrument and the needs of performers.

A superb reference recording by the St. Louis Symphony trombone section is available on the publisher’s website, offering valuable insight into phrasing, articulation, and ensemble style.
