Never Enough Time is a new quartet by Chris Sharpe focused on relating a personal journey through cancer. The work follows this journey, musically breaking it up into 5-6 stylistically distinct sections or episodes that are connected and interrupted by moments of solo cadenza or recitative, and ends with a beautiful chorale. The work is scored with an excellent understanding of trombone ensemble writing and available textures. Each player/part has solo expressive moments as well. For even greater contrast, this could be done by a large trombone choir with players designated for the solo moments, or a quartet recital program. It is accessible to most advanced high school or university groups but will also serve as an effective addition to professional quartet repertoire. Range AA to c2. Grade 4.
