Canon Fodder is a jaunty piece for trombone quartet written by composer and trombonist, Henry Wolking. Paced at a moderate tempo and consistently in common time and bass clef, this is a perfect work for intermediate to advanced players. Wolking is adept at melody manipulation and carefully weaves snippets of the theme throughout all four parts giving each trombonist importance. The range goes from CC in the bass trombone up to c2 in the first trombone part. This piece would be great for students working on rhythmic playing as Wolking includes duple rhythms within triplets and syncopation. With its exciting forward energy, this composition would be a fantastic way to open or close a concert and I recommend it to students and professionals alike.
