Ten Classical Gems for Trombone and Piano is a collection of ten arrangements by Nir Fishkin. The arranged works are as follows: The Trout by Franz Schubert, The Royal March of the Lion by Camille Saint-Saëns, Hunter’s Chorus by Carl Maria von Weber, Concerto for Trombone by Leopold Mozart, Minuet by W.A. Mozart, Moment Musical by Franz Schubert, Turkish March by Ludwig van Beethoven, Memory by Robert Schumann, Polka by Antonin Dvorak, and Aria by Johann Sebastian Bach. The entire collection of pieces is fourteen minutes long and can be played as a unit or singularly. These individual solos are light and easy on the chops. They do not require any extended technique, mixed meters, or extreme range, making them perfect for high school students to play. Due to the many different “classical gems” picked for these arrangements, the solo would line up well with a student’s music history class making them a good pedagogical tool in stylized playing. The range utilized goes from B-flat to f1. Any selection from these ten arrangements would be a delightful choice to program for a recital.
