Score and parts

Primary Genre: Trombone Ensembles - 4 trombones

Written by Cam Millar for the SUNY Purchase Trombone Choir, Arriver is a brilliant work for trombone quartet. The piece has two main themes: a fugue and a chorale. The fugue is in a bright, simple duple meter with an exciting melodic motif passed through all four trombones. The chorale is brief, but creates a lush style change allowing players to delve into lyrical playing. Millar then revisits the original fugal theme to complete the composition with a flourish to the end. This work has demanding rhythmic figures that weave a complexity into the ensemble timing, making this a good pick for advanced players. The first and second trombone parts both go up to c2 while the bass trombone part goes down to AA-flat. Millar’s Arriver is four minutes long, upbeat, and a perfect way to open up a concert.
