Concert Fanfare is dedicated to Nobuhiro Noguchi and the Real Brass Osaka. It is a great concert opener that features many of the gestures we have come to associate with David Uber’s music: pyramid entrances, soft harmonies often moving parallel to one another, simple counterpoint between groups of instruments. Typical fanfare rhythms predominate and a brief, four measure slower passage featuring horn sets off powerful brass statements. First trumpet tops out at a sustained written a2. Most of the writing is in the staff for everyone. Traditional, pleasing, but uniquely David Uber. -Mike Hall Old Dominion University
