Score and parts

Primary Genre: Brass Ensemble - 5 brass

Noted brass composer and arranger, Arthur Frackenpohl, presents Paganini’s Moto Perpetuo for traditional brass quintet. The piano part has been scored for horn, trombone, and tuba, and the trumpets hand off the non-stop, perpetual motion, sixteenth note line. Kendor Music ascribes this grade level VI and the challenge of the solo line certainly reflects this determination. When performed at the indicated tempo, quarter=112, the entire work should last approximately four minutes. Two optional cuts are given which can reduce the entire performance time to 2:35. The technical challenge of this work is contained in the trumpet parts, requiring seamless transitions and consistent tone. The only range issue is in the trumpet one part, which ascends to d3. This dazzling display of virtuosity will be the highlight of a concert program.
