Score and parts

Primary Genre: Trombone Ensembles - 4 trombones

Hristov offers a technically challenging set of varied arrangements for an advanced quartet. The rags are entitled, “Original,” “Solace: A Mexican Serenade,” “Cleopha: March and Two-Step,” and “The Ragtime Dance,” and can be performed alone or in combination. “Solace” provides a slower tempo and lyrical contrast to the other three traditional rags. Although keys are accessible, there are extensive rhythmic considerations requiring substantial command of ensemble precision. Unison syncopated sixteenth-note rhythms in the rag style are pervasive and often set against a static bass line. The first three parts are written in tenor clef and in demanding ranges, with the first part extending from A to f2, second C to e-flat2, third A to d2, and fourth AA-flat to b-flat. Typical sectional repeats and key changes are written in each arrangement allowing for the adjustment of performance time and the saving of chops. Parts are printed to avoid awkward page turns. This collection is strongly recommended for the professional quartet and will make a complimentary contrast in a concert performance.
