Primary Genre: Solo Tenor Trombone - with piano

These three short pieces, Schumann’s Op.94, were composed in 1849 for oboe and piano. The first two are about 4 minutes in length; the third is about 5:30. The solo parts are transposed down a ninth from the originals, moving them to the keys of G minor (I and III) and G major (II). The range of the trombone part is G to c2, notated in tenor clef throughout.

These three delightful pieces, together or separate, are good vehicles for musical expression and are well-suited for the middle of a recital between major works. However, they also work well as jury pieces for an intermediate to advanced college student. A decent upper register is required, yet the pieces are not excessively taxing. They are quite easy to hear, providing lyrical melodies with contrasting middle section.
