Primary Genre: Solo Tenor Trombone - unaccompanied

This short (90 second), in-your-face fanfare would make an effective recital opener if you want to get your audience’s attention. Required is a range from pedal G to high d, good dynamic control, and excellent double tongue technique. It is all at one tempo, quarter note = 138 (or faster) It intersperses its fanfare style with brief moments of lyricism. There is an excellent recording on YouTube, performed by the composer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwEu7jRKtJ0

The composer writes in the preface of the score: “The Swedish phrase “Tuta å Kör” (phonetically Tuta oh Sure) means “Honk and Drive”. It’s an expression used for all kinds of situations where you need speed, energy and good cheer, whether driving, biking, swimming, skiing, playing sports or even playing the trombone. Tuta, Oh Sure was composed in 2022 and premiered by the composer in 2023.” Thomas Hultén (b. 1965), hails from Katrineholm, Sweden. He studied trombone with Ingemar Roos at the Gothenburg Conservatory. After graduating, he performed with several Scandinavian orchestras including the Gothenburg Symphony and the Royal Swedish Opera. He moved to Houston in 1997 and currently serves as principal trombone of the Houston Grand Opera and Ballet. He has also performed with the Houston Symphony, the San Antonio Symphony, and artists such as Ray Charles, Tony Bennett, Dave Brubeck, Chaka Khan, Manhattan Transfer, and Michael Bolton.
