This is a four-part arrangement for the traditional brass band. It sets the first section of Mozart’s Symphony No.40 with a wide array of instrumentation possibilities. Similar arrangements of this music are included for a string section and a woodwind section. They all match each other and can be used in any combination. This review deals only with the brass band arrangement. As the grade level indicates, this sensitive music requires players capable of rhythmic precision, proper dynamic control, etc. The score is given in concert pitch. Parts 1 and 2 are given to B-flat trumpets, two copies of each part. Part 3 is given to B-flat clarinet/trumpet, F horn, E-flat alto saxophone/tenor horn, trombone bass clef, B-flat tenor saxophone/trombone treble clef. Part 4 is given to bassoon/trombone/tuba, B-flat tenor saxophone/bass clarinet/B-flat treble clef trombone, E-flat baritone saxophone/tenor horn. There is a part for everyone. A good brass band will make this sound quite well if the composer’s intent is kept in mind. Presentation is excellent. -Mike Halverson Minneapolis, MN
