This relatively short piece is one of the latest in the growing niche of chamber works for voice and brass that have been written in the last three decades. The tonal framework and the melodic and rhythmic uniformity among the parts create an interesting little character piece that will fit well on a recital program featuring trombone and voice. The trombone part is written entirely in tenor clef and mostly lies between b-flat and b-flat1. The trombone writing is complementary and secondary to that for the voice. Secure legato technique is required for one ten-measure passage in the upper register where voice and trombone overlap and the trombone dynamic is ppp. Other technical challenges consist of a two-measure trill on f1 and octave rips or glissandi from b-flat to b-flat1 and e-flat1 to e-flat2 at the end, although an ossia e-flat1 is indicated. Score and parts are readable and largely error free. The only glitch is that the two pages of the horn part are reversed, though this error presents no reading problems.
