Hnery Purcell
Voluntary in C Major:

Arranged by Daniel A. Innaimo

2 C trumpets, 2 trombones, organ

Middlebury, CT, United States
Publisher: DID Publishing
Date of Publication: 1989

Primary Genre: Brass Ensemble - 4 brass
Secondary Genre: Chamber Music

This brass quartet is for two C trumpets and two trombones. Trumpet players will enjoy playing written ornaments and there are opportunities to add many more decorations in this lesser known Purcell work. The marked tempo is Maestoso, which allows performers time to show off those Baroque improvisational skills. Usually the trombonists have less exciting parts in this type of literature and that is also true in this arrangement. First trumpet has one high c2, otherwise all parts are within comfortable ranges. The organ part is simple, however good organists will display their talents and abilities to elaborate with ornamental figures in the Baroque tradition.
