This sonorous setting for four trombones has the first and second trombones in tenor clef with first trombone in a singing, high tessitura. There are just forty-three measures in the piece but the mouthpiece will be on the lips the entire time. The middle two players have parts in comfortable ranges but the fourth part requires an authentic bass trombonist. It can be played by standard trombone with F attachment but optional low notes are provided that make the work special. Each part has a chance to play lyrically as the other players keep the rhythm moving with eighth note patterns. This work needs competent players who will be rewarded with inspiring sonorities. -Mark Lammers Gustavus Adolphus College
