Score and parts

Primary Genre: Trombone Ensembles - 4 trombones

Lamento No.2 features the first player almost entirely. Much of the piece consists of recitatives above supporting jazz/commercial chords. The first player must be of the highest caliber - the tessitura of the piece is around b-flat1 with trills on c2. The second and third parts have their moments but are not extremely high. The bass trombone part requires a good player and looks like great fun to play. It skips around a lot and provides driving rhythm when needed; AA-flat is its low note. Although it is a tour de force for the soloist, mature players are also required on the other three parts. Presentation is excellent.
