Score and parts

Primary Genre: Trombone Ensembles - 4 trombones

The three movements in this quartet are titled: The Pond, The Channel, and The Divided Mountain. The Pond features sustained notes in two or three of the parts against one or two players moving in counterpoint with each other. The moving parts continually change; everyone has a chance to solo and to support the sustaining accompaniment. Volume changes frequently and markings must be observed, and several dissonances will keep the audience awake. The Channel moves faster with the bass trombone having the most fun. Again there is much interplay among parts. The Divided Mountain is a brisk finale with even more imitation among the parts. The first player needs a consistent b-flat1 and must enter on it often. This is a fine quartet that requires mature players to do it justice, probably college level or above, and it is fun to play. Presentation is excellent.
