The ITA student council was established in September of 2024 under the advisement of Dr. Megan Boutin and Dr. Jonathan Houghtling. The council is made up of the following members.
Anthony Cangemi is the Secretary and pursuing dual masters degrees in Arts Administration at Indiana University and Cultural Policy & Arts Management at University College Dublin. He aims to work with a professional orchestra, promoting their mission and values to serve audiences efficiently and authentically.
Matt Fowler is a Member at Large and a classical bass trombonist and educator. He serves as the principal bass trombonist of the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra and is pursuing a DMA degree at the University of North Texas.
Layne Hopkins is the President and a senior trombone performance major at Virginia Commonwealth University, aspiring to be an orchestral trombonist. She advocates for diversity in music and volunteers with local elementary school band programs.
Ambry Jonker is the Social Media and Outreach Coordinator a junior at Western Michigan University, studying Music Education. She is passionate about advocacy and mentorship, and volunteering.
Jayeon Lee is a Member at Large and a sophomore trombone performance major at the University of North Texas who aspires to be an orchestral trombonist and an excellent music educator. She is dedicated to her craft and enjoys sharing her passion for music with others through teaching and performance.
Corey Nance is the Vice President and pursuing a master’s in trombone performance and pedagogy at the University of Colorado Boulder. He is the principal trombone of the Symphony of the Rockies in Denver and serves on their Board of Directors.
The primary mission of the student council is to represent the interests and voices of student members of ITA. The council is committed to promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion through representing students by ensuring connection, collaboration, and growth within the trombone community.
