Kevin Day Commission Lift Every Voice

Kevin Day Commission Lift Every Voice

In celebration of its 50th anniversary, the ITA, with support from the Commissions Committee and Advisory Council on Diversity, launched a consortium for a new composition written by composer, Kevin Day.

The new work will be premiered by the Lift Every Voice Trombone Choir at this summer’s International Trombone Festival in Conway, Arkansas. The Lift Every Voice Trombone Choir is a feature ensemble of outstanding African-American trombonists, covering a wide range of ages and stylistic disciplines. This ensemble celebrates the contributions of African-Americans to the trombone and showcases the world class talent within this community of trombonists, with the purpose of inspiring the next generation.

Kevin Day is an internationally acclaimed composer of over 200 works whose music “intersects between the worlds of jazz, minimalism, Latin music, fusion, and contemporary classical idioms.” His works have been programmed by major orchestras including the Boston Symphony, Houston Symphony and Detroit Symphony. We are pleased to offer this new composition to the trombone community, with the help of 19 co-commissioners from universities and performing organizations around the world.
